Exactly my compromise idea too Kelpie. Let the R&D continue, hopefully it responds to Hansen's call for a workable, safe fast neutron reactor that can treat waste onsite.

The danger of "glow trains" makes transport of present waste untenable as they serve as portable x-ray machines for every area they pass through.

These new generation waste treating reactors can be set up at existing plants to render the nuclear leagcey finally safe. And gebnerate power too as a byproduct. If the nuclear industry can prove itself with rigorous oversite.

For our part as skeptics of nuclear power I believe we should demand a permanent moratorium on the construction of any present technology plants and an orderly closing of the existing plants over the next 20 or 30 years, including waste treatment.
